Rachel Baron​ - Head Coach & Public Forum Debate Coach

Rachel, a rising junior at Bowdoin, debated for Whitman and served as Vice-President of the team. She joins the team for her third year as PF coach. She is a two-time qualifier to the Tournament of Champions, including finishing as a Quarterfinalist in 2012, and a one-time attendee of NFL Nationals, where she participated in elimination rounds.  In her Junior and Senior years Rachel reached elimination rounds at virtually every tournament attended and late elimination rounds at numerous tournaments, including Quarterfinals at The Glenbrooks and Apple Valley. She was also recognized as one of the top ten speakers at several tournaments, such as The New York City Invitational and The Blake John Edie Tournament. She competed at several round robins, reaching finals at the Blake Round Robin and semi-finals of the Laird Lewis PF Challenge. She has coached for the Harvard Debate Council Summer Workshops.

Fionn Adamian​ - Assistant Coach Public Forum Debate

Fionn debated for four years at Whitman and was elected president of the team his senior year. As a competitor, he won Yale, the Bronx Round Robin, the New York City Invitational, Glenbrooks, the PF Challenge, the Harvard Round Robin, and the Tournament of Champions. In terms of individual awards, Fionn received first speaker at the Bronx Round Robin, second speaker at the Harvard Invitational, and fourth speaker at the Blake Invitational. He is a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania.

Varun Bhave​ - Assistant Coach Lincoln-Douglas Debate

Varun Bhave did four years of LD debate at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego. He accumulated 14 career bids, qualifying to the TOC twice and reaching octofinals. He now attends Princeton University, where he is studying neuroscience and philosophy.


Dana Councilman​​ - Assistant Coach Lincoln-Douglas Debate​

Dana is a sophomore at the George Washington University and an assistant LD coach. Dana debated for St. Louis Park High School in St. Louis Park Minnesota for four years. Dana attended TOC her senior year, achieving an even record. Dana cleared at eight bid tournaments her senior year without dropping a unanimous decision all season. She bid at the Omaha Westside debate tournament, and was in bid rounds at four tournaments: Iowa Caucus, Apple Valley, Dowling and Harvard. Dana has helped coach novice debaters on her team since junior year and senior year, as team captain, she worked extensively running practices and giving lectures for novice debaters

Gabriel Delsol​ - Assistant Coach Public Forum Debate

Gabriel recently graduated from the Bronx High School of Science where he debated in Public Forum for four years. His senior year he was able to work as novice director of a class of upward of 70 first year debaters and as an instructor at Harvard Debate Council Summer Workshops. He attended the TOC two years in a row and was able to debate nationwide his senior year, wining the Blake Round Robin and the State Championship, and reaching late out rounds at Yale, Glenbrooks, Harvard, Emory and Blake. He will be attending American University in the Fall where he will be majoring in International Studies.

Michael Harris​ - Assistant Coach Lincoln-Douglas Debate

Michael debated Lincoln Douglas for four years at Loyola High in California. He won the College Prep and Berkeley tournaments, and got to finals of Bronx Science, Voices, and Stanford. During his senior year he ultimately received nine bids to the Tournament of Champions, where he ended his career in quarters. Michael currently attends Santa Clara University. This is his third year coaching Whitman.​

Abigail Marone​ - Assistant Coach Congressional Debate

Abigail Marone is a freshman at The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs. Over the summer she coached Congressional Debate at the Harvard Debate Council and the Champion Briefs Institute. While competing for Notre Dame HS in Easton, PA she served as debate captain and team president. Abby also championed numerous tournaments including the Villiger Invitational, The Pennsylvania State Championship, The Yale Invitational and NSDA Nationals in the House. She qualified for the TOC for three years, placing 5th both her junior and senior year. Abby has placed and/or advanced to the final round at many other national tournaments including NCFL Nationals, the Bronx Science Invitational and historical scenario, the GMU Patriot Games and the Harvard Invitational. During her senior year, Abby was a member of the USA National Debate Team where she competed in World School's Debate format.


Gavin Mease - Assistant Coach Speech

Gavin graduated from George Mason University and is working in Major League Baseball management. He has coached the Whitman speech team since 2012. He competed in forensics for three years in high school with Loyola Blakefield in Towson, MD. After graduating in 2010, Gavin moved on to George Mason where he competed in college forensics until his junior year.

Jenny Questell - Assistant Coach Speech
Jenny was in multiple national outrounds of Original Oratory and Humorous Interpretation as a competitor for Pinecrest High School in North Carolina, in addition to being a state champion and 4 time national qualifier.  She recently received her BA in Public Relations from George Mason University in 2014. While in college, she appeared in many national and international outrounds in both interpretation and public address events.  Jenny currently works in Major Gifts and Planned Giving at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She loves forensics and being continually inspired by students!
